About the book

Designed for anyone who needs a comprehensive introduction to the principles of statistical methods and their applications, this popular text is written in a practical, non-forbidding style. Each chapter clearly explains the principles of each topic before presenting applications of the theory. The use of Excel and MINITAB is fully integrated throughout the book, demonstrating the application of computer packages to solve a wide range of statistical problems.

This second edition has been fully updated and takes a student-centred approach, including teaching aims, learning outcomes, highlighted equations and summaries of key terms to enhance understanding. There is expanded coverage of analysis of variance and regression analysis, updated and extended references for further reading and additional examples and exercises.

In addition to the uncomplicated and comprehensive coverage of essential statistical topics, the reader will benefit from these invaluable features incorporated with the text:

> step-by-step worked examples illustrating the use of statistical techniques in solving practical problems
> self-study exercises allowing readers to test their knowledge
> comprehensive glossary of terms offering a useful reference tool
> online data sets providing the basis for additional problem-solving using computer methods
> appendices describing the MINITAB and Excel programs and their application, supporting the use of both packages

Principles of Applied Statistics is suitable for use by students on degree and diploma courses in all disciplines. It will also provide an ideal introduction to the statistical content of MBA and DMS programmes.
